Yes. I know. Mother's Day was yesterday. This isn't necessarily about Mother's day, the day that we honor once a year. No, this has more to do with the idea of motherhood in general.
My dear sweet friend, Ashleigh, is well on her way to becoming a mother for the very first time.Every time she and I get together, she'll tell me about the progress she and her husband, George, are making in expectation of their little person. As Ashleigh would tell me about these preparations, I thought to myself "Wouldn't it be fun to try to document some of these moments?" What I thought would be interesting was not so much documenting the pregnancy, but rather documenting the steps getting ready to be a parent.
So I'm beginning a special, little personal project here, capturing some images along my dear friend's journey towards motherhood. From time to time I'll be adding photos over the next few months, as we await the arrival of baby Pierce (whom I have nicknamed Peanut.)
This first small sampling of images is quite a special one. Although the nursery is still awaiting furniture, the one thing it is fully stocked on is books. Books were always a huge part of Ashleigh's childhood. After all, Ashleigh's mom was a children's librarian. (She recently shared some of her favorite children's books here.)
On the day I took these photos, Ashleigh and Susan were going through and reminiscing with some of their favorites, a few of which are now held together with lots of tape. :-)
It was wonderful to share these special mother/daughter moments with these two ladies. I had a lot of fun being there too. Memories and stories were shared, and there was lots of laughter when funny voices were spoken for the characters. Ashleigh is right. Her mom does do the best voices (Thanks Susan!)
